Anyone following my travails on Twitter or Facebook will know I've had to replace my 13-inch MacBook Pro due to an incident with, ironically, apple juice. The contents of a knocked down mug quickly trickled into the vent in the back of the running machine, which quickly proceeded to black out. I quickly raised up the MBP and the juice trickled out the vent and back onto the table. Thinking it was "just" water, I thought my quick actions, and a bit of waiting for things to dry completely, might give me a fighting chance. Imagine my chagrin when I found out it was actually sticky apple juice!
Well, two apple authorized service centers later and I was left with, basically, a set of spare parts. The motherboard needed replacing at about 95% of the cost of a new computer. Unbelievable.
So, I bought a new 13-inch MacBook Pro. I'm usually excited with new purchases like this, but I have to say my excitement is more than tempered by the cost of the machine - a rather unnecessary cost (but for some spilt juice). Migrating all my apps, documents and settings also took me the better part of two days to complete. I know there must be a better way, but at least the "option boot" into my "old" hard disk helped quite a bit.
From a purely technical perspective, it is a great machine: slightly faster processor (2.4 GHz dual core), double the RAM (4 GB), more hard disk space (250 GB), a better graphics card, even better battery life (~10 hours vs. 7 hours) and all still in the same "perfect" form factor and size.
I am going to be EXTRA careful to keep it away from apple juice, or any other kind of juice for that matter!
